For those of us who wish to produce an Ebook for sale on our niche sites, there are a few options that we may consider.
For the ones among us that are professional writers, you can write the Ebook yourself as well as publish it.
Or, if you are not so inclined, you can spend a few dollars and hire a ghost writer to write The Ebook for you.
Alternatively, we can search for a suitable book that is in the public domain.
I find that Ebay is a wonderful research tool and I use it to find articles and books that were published before 1923, which means that they are in the public domain.
By scrolling through the categories, sub-categories and sub, sub-categories, interesting public domain books can be found.
After locating a suitable book we will have to establish it’s availability and possible listing with the Interlibrary Loan system.
This listing that we are dealing with here is just an example of how to find niche products, public domain books and how to obtain these public domain books for nothing, or at least very low cost.
First let’s go to our favorite research tool at: listings.ebay.com/
This will bring up a list of all categories and their sub-categories.
Bear in mind that each of these categories, sub-categories and sub, sub-categories, contain niche market possibilities.
Now select: Category- Books
Then under the: Sub-category- Antiquarian & Collectible Books
Scroll down to: Printing Year and click on 1850-1899
Remember that we are looking for books that are in the Public Domain, books printed in this era definitely are.
The window that opens will show a list of 7000 plus books printed in that period, in the search bar I want you to enter this (how to, learn, instructions) include the brackets, the drop down menu on the right should have “Antiquarian & Collectable”.
Click search, this will bring up a page listing only 17 items that are all learning and instruction books.
We can see a book there “How To Know The Wild Flowers” that was printed in 1899, click on the item and, as well as purchasing instructions, we see the sellers details where we can see that he has sold other items that may be of interest to us.
Copy the sellers user name and click on “Advanced Search”, it’s up in the top right hand corner, on the page that opens up click on “Items By Seller”.
On the next page that opens up paste the sellers username in the form box, check “Include Completed Listings” insert “Last 30 Days” then click search.
That will open up a list of items that the seller has sold or is selling.
We find a book listed there that was printed in 1898 “Our Country in War and our Foreign Relations” By Murat Halstead.
Apparently this book has not been sold and the current bid is low, none the less we should go to: www.abebooks.com
This is a site where a group of booksellers list their books and it is a fine source of finding the price and availability of public domain, or any other, books.
Okay, we open up abebooks.com and put the name “Our Country in War and our Foreign Relations” in the form box and click “Find Book”.
In this instance we find that only one book seller has a copy listed and the price is $35
Now the options are that you can buy the book through the ebay seller, the book seller listed with abebooks.com or you can check with your local Interlibrary Loan System and see if you can borrow the book and copy it for nothing.
Make it a habit to search through Ebay’s listings, there are countless opportunities to be found.
