Walk away from him telling him to stay, using your hand hold it up firmly. By doing this will make him realise that when you hold your hand up that you want him to stay, not just when you tell him to.

Then give it a few seconds and let your friend release him, when he comes to you make him sit and tell him how clever he is and give him his reward. While using this technique you are also teaching your dog how to come to you as well, so don’t forget to say “come” to him, not just his name.

Once they have done their business you must give them lots of affection outside straight away (of course it’s best to wait until they are done) They will soon come to realise that outside is the place to do their business and will soon start asking to go outside.
